I mean yea but a solid half of shit that should exist falls under ”we can’t allow $X goodthing[s]$ because either a present or future shitty regime will use it for $Y badthing[s]$”

given how things have turned out of late, I’d say the badthing-worriers have the scoreboard on their side

you did not have to do the gang at fashion nail like that

As it turns out, lotsa people are VERY happy to burn years on volunteer side-projects for a vaguely-defined greater good 𝙄𝙁 you keep them enthused and happy, which is the true currency of such arrangements. Fuck them around and they'll flee in droves or split off without you. Just that simple.

that’s fair, I think that part of it is intellectual drag from the years of ”you can have a good defensive catcher or a good hitting catcher, pick one, ps there aren’t that many good hitting catchers”

i guess my point is that even with the yawning, and I want to be clear that judge was the best hitter in the AL and it wasn’t close, gap between the two in hitting, I’m not convinced that those metrics accurately account for the value gained

Go the other way and make a frankenplayer- if judge played catcher with Raleigh’s defense and maintained judge production, is he more valuable than as a RF?

i… fuck, man. I have stood in that same museum and in That instagram room installation and had the same “Where are my exits” and had the same “this is fucking ridiculous that I have to think like this, it is wrong that anyone has to think like this”

somewhat related- defector is awash with absolute apex, top-of-class writers; I have wondered how you you guys divy up targets for some time, is it “first to throw the marker in slack” or “fuck, Ratto is going to be the best to defenestrate this weirdo”

watching the og Day Of The Jackal and beyond the competency on display, it was refreshing to see a pol who fucks up but takes their fuck up seriously enough to off themselves

we do what can be done under bsd and in that context I think ai is a no brainer, but in fairness to original authors if a llm is effectively doing a copy + paste of a gpl thing or some other fucked up license, I don’t think that is all that far from a dev copy and pasting

09.11.2025 00:08 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

I mean yes, a lot of programmers that are bad violate licensure, but that is (and has been!) enforced legally many times over, so not clear that changing the mechanism for copying and pasting obviates the licensure

there is a reason that supply chain analytics exists beyond security

like practically, sure, scaffolding or run of the mill shit, who cares

the copyleft/copyright question around ai code (they can’t be works in the traditional sense of the word) is pretty gnarly though; I haven’t seen anything from the usual suspects that gives me any amount of satisfaction that the output from an llm tool is in compliance

90% of the time i've had a schedule be fucked, it was because the PM was being told to hit a date to juice some number or quarterly report, to the point where there was a real schedule and there was The Schedule for the bigwigs

i'm allowing for rockstar to just be muppets, here, but

at this point I’m mostly convinced that the reason “basket of deplorables” got so much airtime is because it’s such a weird fuckin turn of phrase

“half his supporters are weird, evil fucks“- to the point
