if I could distill my point here, it's: be very careful not to confuse "can a computer do this thing only a human could do previously?" with "can a computer do it robustly and reliably enough to replace the accountability that a fireable human represents?"

I respected Chris Hayes a lot more before this discussion. Anyone who confidently insists that AI is “getting better” without offering specifics is someone who’s getting conned and/or conning the rest of us.

And you know this, I'm preaching to the choir here, but we zagged and went aggressively against AI and have grown enormously, responsibly, and sustainably, while every company I know that started dicking around with it is in serious trouble. This is our industry-specific, but it is a data point.

The reality is they NEED this to work outside of that use case and it barely does for most people. I am a lot more open to it than a lot of people I know because I actually like it when technology makes things better. But the flopsweat on people insisting this MUST work is awfully familiar.

This is true, and even if we get rid of Trump, we still have to reckon with the fact that a substantial proportion of US economic and political elites were *eager* to jump on the fascism train. They will still be the same people when Trump is gone.

As someone who more or less agrees with a lot of left-liberal criticism of actually existing socialist foreign policy thinking in the US, I still find it silly that people on here like to pretend that Brett McGurk or Anthony Blinken have less influence than glup shitto who canvasses for PSL
