Trump Officials Accused of Bullying Tactics to Kill a Climate Measure

The nation’s top diplomat: β€œMarco Rubio, the secretary of state, personally called officials in several countries to threaten financial penalties and other punishments if they continued to support the agreement to cut ship pollution.”

Ezra Klein This Is the Way You Beat Trump β€” and Trumpism

I saw a poll a few weeks ago that struck me. It was from The New York Times and Siena University. It asked Americans what they thought the top problem facing the country was. No. 1 was the economy. That was what I expected. But No. 2 wasn’t immigration or inflation or democracy or climate change or even Trump. It was political division. In that same poll, 64 percent of the country said we’re too divided to solve our problems. They’re not wrong.

I hear it when Trump says, β€œI hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them.” When I hear that, I hear something scary, but I also hear an opening, an opportunity: In the end, most Americans want America to work. They know we disagree with one another. They don’t want us to hate one another.

I will never understand the pundit obsession with getting Democrats to solve "political division."

Not only is this what they're already doing, but Klein admits that Republicans will never do the same. So elections will remain constant GOP smears and simping Democratic promises of bipartisanship.

BESSENT: I believe we are in a transition period here. I think we're in good shape, but there are sectors of the economy that are in recession

The FBI forced out a senior official overseeing aviation shortly after Director Kash Patel grew outraged about revelations of his publicly-available jet logs indicating he’d flown to see his musician girlfriend perform, said three people familiar with the situation.

Steven Palmer, a 27-year veteran of the FBI, became the third head of the critical incident response groupβ€”which includes FBI pilotsβ€”to be fired or removed in Patel’s short regime, adding to a year filled with retributive terminations.

genuinely crazy-making how much the national press is indifferent to the verifiable fact that jd vance is buddy buddy with internet nazis, and the degree to which this is almost certainly a form of solidarity among people with a similar institution pedigree

The Strategist’s Fallacy in American politics The average American voter does not think about politics the way elite strategists and pundits do

The GOP has been extremely effective at shaping perceptions of the Democrats, claiming they support policy positions they don't actually support

If your strategy, as a Dem, for winning in 2028 *STARTS* by buying their spin and lies, then you've already lost

I’d love to read it. Interesting how Tolkien’s ambition to write mythology is sort of validated by it being co-opted and maliciously misinterpreted by fascist goons. The morals of his work are obvious to my 9 year old!

Has anyone actually written something on the apparently inability of the reactionary mind to grasp the basic themes and even overt text of Tolkien?

Like at some point Gandalf turns directly to camera and says β€œthe Men of Gondor sure are insufficient to this task, we need the hobbits to do it”

So you should really watch this. Just 2 minutes. But a window into the truly radical nature of the people Trump is nominating.

When pressed today, the nominee to be Ambassador to South Africa refuses to oppose reinstituting laws to prevent black people from voting in America.

Tax Day Is Met With Tea Parties (Published 2009)

Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

The whole point of democracy is so one person's derangement does not become everybody's problem. It's social hygiene. The fact the richest men in the West are a mix of grotty twelve year olds and deranged apocalypse fanatics is a problem, and we should be honest about it.

the symbolism of β€œTrump destroying the White House for a overpriced luxury vanity project, during a government shut down, days after a historically-large mass demonstration against his regime called β€œNo Kings”’ would be rightly viewed as laying it on a little thick if it was in a work of fiction

Obama sharing a video of himself wearing a crown and flying a King Obama jet that dumped shit all over Americans would have been the only thing the news networks talked about for weeks.

Meanwhile, Trump doing that very thing couldn't even warrant a discussion on the Sunday shows today.
