This scenario must have happened before, right, where there's been an extreme weather event and farmers have been unable to milk leading to Fonterra developing a quick deploying mobile platform to the affected areas.

Or it's easier and cheaper to just hit up Hoggard for whatever they need.

Bloody depressing though. Was reading about how this scenario played out in Nelson/ Tasman in, I think, the 1940s, 50s where trucking companies lobbied the govt to move freight away from trains which starved the region of money for new lines and maintenance.

Rather cynical but Kiwirail aren't likely to be National donors vs the truck companies who probably have ministers out to dinner a couple times a month.

From decent society to dog-eat-dog OPINION: While ordinary workers tighten their belts, the prime minister trims his rates bill. Luxon’s government has turned Bolger’s “decent society” into a dog-eat-dog one.

Te Pāti Māori co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and MP Tākuta Ferris setting fire to a copy of the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) (Customary Marine Title) Amendment Bill on Parliament steps. Racing down the steps behind them, waving his arms in the air, is Speaker Gerry Brownlee, shouting, “Stop! STOP! That is the dumbest thing you could possibly do. It is unacceptably irresponsible… Here, take the keys to the protest LandRover and drive up the steps instead!”

A fast-tracked farce: Trans-Tasman Resources still hasn’t learned to listen - Greenpeace Aotearoa If you’ve ever wondered what corporate arrogance looks like, spend a day at Trans-Tasman Resources’ (TTR) fast-track application conference*. I did. It was my first out-of-office in my new role&hellip...

Fast-tracked farce:
"TTR seems to believe that their friendliness with the coalition government will make up for the fact that they’ve been rejected by everyone else — iwi, scientists, councils, community groups, even the Supreme Court. They’ve lost badly, and repeatedly..."

A political cartoon where the Welsh flag has been modified showing the red dragon snorting flames at a mound of ash topped by carefully coiffed grey hair and glasses (presumed to be that of the British PM, Keir Starmer).

As an ex catholic the comparison between AI / religion clarified my unease for the zeal that people have for it. I was in IT 20 years and left before AI but the way people speak about how useful it is when they can barely navigate their own digital realm is jarring. Appreciate your writing as ever.

They believe their free market (and speech) is right and if you don't agree, well, you're plain wrong.

They also know their free market is wrong which means shutting down the dissenters and they've got a big enough platform to bully people into submission.

Straight from the grifters rule book.

One of the coalition party members was shouting "corporate subsidies!" about Labour's future fund. Any shouting about this?

Why was light rail not chosen instead of the immensely expensive below ground CRL?

New Zealand guts climate policy it bragged about on the world stage The law was once held up internationally as a model of transparency. The government just weakened it.

You know, there’s this pervasive view that people don’t care about climate change / are bored of it / find it overwhelming but I wrote this story this week and social media went crazy over it. People care!!!! They really care are they need a way to channel it www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

It really is. And from the outside looking in, her actions (and her colleagues in govt) are abominable. Those cringy photos of herself with Noem and Hegseth and calling them friends and leaders while they're doing what they're doing - does she, and our govt, seriously aspire to that? Geezus.

NZ abstains on key shipping pollution vote despite Pacific pleas Island nations championed efforts to reduce maritime climate emissions, but received no help from NZ during a key vote on delaying the work. Marc Daalder reports.

New Zealand broke with Europe, the Pacific Islands and Australia to side with the US, Saudi Arabia etc.

A shamefull betrayal.

Yep put that way it does seem quite a price tag. Wonder if the media are across this or with the constant shit this govt create they are a little thinly spread.

Economic miracle? We have both high inflation and shite growth They thought we could only record high inflation when the economy was running hot. They thought wrong.

It's been said before and I'm saying again but anyone who repeats the line "you’ve got to create some unemployment to reduce inflation" should immediately resign from their overpaid, uninformed, ignorant roles (usually titled "economist") and take one for the team.

I saw some chat a while back about why these cost more ie we don't have the resources to repair / maintain thus the increased cost for us vs Aus - is that a fair assessment?
