I grew up in a place with ~8 ft tidal shifts, and for 20 years have lived in a place with ~1 ft tidal shifts… I realized quickly that the phrase my Dad always used to say, “time and tide wait for no man” doesn’t really hold the same power here!

I can’t wait to start it! I think I’m going to start it 12/1 like a traditional advent calendar, but I also love that it’s designed so you can do it in any 24-day period!

I grew up in the marsh (in MA) and grew up hearing about how the vertical cuts in the marsh were a WPA project to help with mosquito control. Seems like there were a lot of great things done on large and small scales.

Yes, sometimes!! On the whole scientists, academics, medical, people here for conferences are not great tippers. Good tippers are usually younger people, people here for football games, people on vacation. People going on cruises generally happy but don’t leave extra. Overall we get good people!

Yup. And sadly, historically not great tippers 😩 (we have a 20% auto grat where I work, but it’s not uncommon for people to toss a few extra bucks on there… not last night! lol. Any extra I got was from non-conference guests and people here for the Billie Eilish show). But good guests overall!

A fit bit screen shot showing 27,004 steps and 241 workout minutes for yesterday, totaling 11.78 miles
I am tired. No big deal, just 241 workout minutes. Lol. American Heart Association conference in town, 14,000 attendees. Restaurant was packed last night with tons of large parties. We have a reception for 80 booked tonight. We’re all dragging but happy for the money!

I think this is a desert cactus, maybe? (If anyone knows, please tell me!). She is my most neglected plant. However, she’s blooming spectacularly right now!! #bloomscrolling

Same!! I write the dates with a sharpie and I’ve set reminders in my phone for all of the filters and when they need to be changed. There is NO WAY I’d remember to do it otherwise! Even with reminders, sometimes it takes a few days…

Ugh. One of my students has not been in class for the past two weeks, and now has disappeared off of my roster. If you are a student, and if you feel comfortable doing so, please let us know if you are dropping our class or out of the program, we worry about you! I hope they’re ok. 😩

Y’all. @deecherrywriter.bsky.social presented in my doctoral class tonight on Ethics and Social Justice and my class was so engaged! They kept talking about how much they learned about Christian Nationalism and how it fits (or doesn’t) into social justice. Hire him to teach about it in your world!!

The Sawyer Free library in Gloucester??? I spent LOTS of time studying there when I was in high school. The update looks amazing, and I had a friend use one of the meeting rooms last week, she said it was great!

What kind did you get? I’m currently researching them and getting lost in the options. I know to look at replacement filter cost. I’m thinking tankless as it seems to have less wastewater. Have you noticed a difference in your energy bills?

Greens and beans. In the Northeast, escarole is usually cheap (sadly, not true here in LA), but you can also use kale or any hearty green. Simmer 1-2 cans white beans with lots of garlic. Cook down greens. Add garlicky beans w/their juice to greens, add red pepper flakes and grated parm. Simmer. 😀

Wow!! That is awesome. I hope that’s a high you can ride for a bit. I know in your business it’s one thing after another by necessity, but give yourself a second to reflect on this and feel proud!!
