Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.

I’ve signed this letter calling for full parliamentary scrutiny of the EHRC’s guidance.

Trans people deserve clarity, dignity, and safe access to services - not uncertainty and exclusion. Parliament must ensure that any guidance reflects lived experience and protects everyone’s rights.

If Keir Starmer thinks a reshuffle will solve anything he is learning the wrong lessons from the calamity Conservatives.

He needs to grab the bull by the horns and confront the real issues, not just move people around the cabinet table.

Trans people deserve dignity and safety.

The rise in hate crimes, including in North Yorkshire, should alarm us all.

Upcoming EHCR guidance must recognise trans people’s existence, prioritise their safety, and inclusion.

Equality must mean equality for everyone.

I've written to British Transport Police asking for clarity on the specific changes they've made to their policy following the Supreme Court ruling.

With EHRC guidance still pending, it's vital we understand how these decisions were made and what they mean in practice.

I am increasingly disappointed that the concerns of the #LGBTQ+ community over what the Supreme Court judgement means for them are not yet being addressed. I have written to the Government asking them to make clear how trans and non binary rights will be protected.

LGBT+ LIB DEMS STATEMENT On the Supreme Court ruling, 16/04/25 Like many, we are disappointed and deeply concerned by today’s Supreme Court judgement, which marks a significant and troubling shift away from decades of settled legal precedent. By redefining sex in law as “biological” — a term with no clear legal or scientific consensus, and one that does not reflect the lived realities of many people, the ruling introduces confusion and instability into our legal system, which has treated “sex” and “gender” as interchangeable for decades. We are concerned that this creates an unsatisfactory ambiguity around how people with various endocrine and intersex conditions should be treated, how Gender Recognition Certificates can be obtained and given their intended force in law, and many other areas. This ruling undermines established protections for trans+ people. Attempts to define sex biologically risk rolling back hard-won rights for all women, not just trans+ women, which is why Liberal Democrats oppose them. However, nothing in this judgement means that trans+ women can or should be regularly excluded from women's services and spaces. The law still says that trans+ people should not be excluded without a proportionate and legitimate reason. (Continues - )

Really happy that the LibDems passed our new policy on LGBTQIA+ rights today which reaffirmed support for trans folk

We are a liberal party with liberal values, and it makes me proud to be a member when we can pass policy like this while Labour and the Tories lack the back bone to do so

Freedom to live you life as who you are is not too much to ask. Today, members passed our new policy to strengthen the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and support them as in living their lives freely.

This is thuggery from Trump and Vance, plain and simple.

They are bullying the brave true patriot Zelensky into accepting a deal which effectively hands victory to Russia. Unless the UK and Europe step up, we are facing a betrayal of Ukraine.
