LGBT+ Liberal Democrats condemn our party's decision to base internal gender quotas on sex assigmed at birth.

This trans-exclusionary decision is an attack on one of the most vulnerable groups in our society.

So fucking angry about this, honestly debating cancelling my membership because this is pure cowardice from the party.

I was for Josh, but now I'm single issue voting over trans rights, and Prues statement felt stronger

Disgusting that we're rolling over here

What the fuck

I'm sorry, but leaving the ECAT??? The human trafficking Treaty???

Your actually insane, and now bordering on worse then reform! Surely human trafficking protections should be some of the easiest to justify in the asylum system!

Totally evil stance, what the fuck

Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.

Nigel Farage wants to drag Britain down the same road as Trump’s America: chaos, division and fear. Our NHS, our rights and our communities are at risk. Do not let Trump’s America become Farage’s Britain.

What is happening in Gaza is a genocide. And the President of the United States is doing nothing to stop it.

Keir Starmer must raise this with Trump during the state visit.

I’ve signed this letter calling for full parliamentary scrutiny of the EHRC’s guidance.

Trans people deserve clarity, dignity, and safe access to services - not uncertainty and exclusion. Parliament must ensure that any guidance reflects lived experience and protects everyone’s rights.

If Keir Starmer thinks a reshuffle will solve anything he is learning the wrong lessons from the calamity Conservatives.

He needs to grab the bull by the horns and confront the real issues, not just move people around the cabinet table.

The government needs to publish any legal advice received around involvement in the conflict with Iran.

The last thing we need is for the UK to be dragged into another illegal war in the Middle East by the US.

We're bringing a legal challenge to the EHRC’s β€˜Interim Update’ A number of trans and intersex individuals have today begun a legal challenge to the EHRC’s β€˜Interim Update’ following the For Women, Scotland decision

Along with a man and a woman who are trans, and someone who is intersex, we are suing the EHRC and the Equalities Minister in respect of the disgraceful and unlawful EHRC guidance.

In line with our transparency principles we are publishing the full 32 page legal letter. goodlaw.social/2ihj

Trans people deserve dignity and safety.

The rise in hate crimes, including in North Yorkshire, should alarm us all.

Upcoming EHCR guidance must recognise trans people’s existence, prioritise their safety, and inclusion.

Equality must mean equality for everyone.

I've written to British Transport Police asking for clarity on the specific changes they've made to their policy following the Supreme Court ruling.

With EHRC guidance still pending, it's vital we understand how these decisions were made and what they mean in practice.

I am increasingly disappointed that the concerns of the #LGBTQ+ community over what the Supreme Court judgement means for them are not yet being addressed. I have written to the Government asking them to make clear how trans and non binary rights will be protected.

LGBT+ LIB DEMS STATEMENT
On the Supreme Court ruling, 16/04/25

Like many, we are disappointed and deeply concerned by today’s Supreme Court judgement, which marks a significant and troubling shift away from decades of settled legal precedent.
By redefining sex in law as β€œbiological” β€” a term with no clear legal or scientific consensus, and one that does not reflect the lived realities of many people, the ruling introduces confusion and instability into our legal system, which has treated β€œsex” and β€œgender” as interchangeable for decades.
We are concerned that this creates an unsatisfactory ambiguity around how people with various endocrine and intersex conditions should be treated, how Gender Recognition Certificates can be obtained and given their intended force in law, and many other areas.
This ruling undermines established protections for trans+ people. Attempts to define sex biologically risk rolling back hard-won rights for all women, not just trans+ women, which is why Liberal Democrats oppose them.
However, nothing in this judgement means that trans+ women can or should be regularly excluded from women's services and spaces. The law still says that trans+ people should not be excluded without a proportionate and legitimate reason.

As LGBT+ Liberal Democrats, we will not stand by in silence. We don't think Britain is the sort of country where people should have to show their 'papers, please' in order to use the loo.
The fight for trans+ equality continues, and we will never stop standing up for our trans+, non-binary and gender non-conforming communities, and all communities under our wonderfully diverse LGBTQ+ umbrella.
We are proud to be in the most progressive party across Great Britain for LGBT+ rights. Lib Dems seek to uplift individuals and their communities, and help them to be the best they can be, free to be who they are.
We believe people when they show us who they are. We celebrate diversity, and do not support efforts to legislate in ignorance to enforce conformity. We remain steadfast in our commitment to dignity, safety and justice for all.
Ever yours,
The Executive Committee

We are a liberal party with liberal values, and it makes me proud to be a member when we can pass policy like this while Labour and the Tories lack the back bone to do so

Really glad to see the party passing this motion and reaffirming our commitment to LGBTQIA+ rights

After the Natalie Bird fiasco etc, it's good to see the party membership taking a clear and public stand for trans rights.

We are a Liberal party, and trans rights must be part of a Liberal view.

Free To Be Who You Are As liberals, we believe that true equality is achieved when individuals are not only free from prejudice and discrimination, but also free to fulfil their potential. So fighting for LGBTQ+ rights is…

Our policy includes:
πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ Better support for LGBTQ+ survivors
πŸ‘ŠπŸ» Ending anti-LGBTQ+ abuse in social care
βš–οΈ Banning unnecessary, non-consensual treatments
🀰🏻Fair NHS fertility access

This is thuggery from Trump and Vance, plain and simple.

They are bullying the brave true patriot Zelensky into accepting a deal which effectively hands victory to Russia. Unless the UK and Europe step up, we are facing a betrayal of Ukraine.
