More Excerpts from Olivia Nuzzi’s American Canto “Forget the sex; the real scandal here is the crime against language.” — Brian Phillips, The Ringer, on Olivia Nuzzi’s new memoir, American Canto, ...

“I became both heroine and heroin to him. And sometimes, a heron, for when we did bird play.”

Web 1.0-style page with a picture of a unicorn sitting by a reflection pool at night and the same unicorn lounging in the snow. Text: Feel free to take this card from my page. I think you would send this to someone you love or you like them a fair amount. You could add text that says:
• You are the unicorn of my life.
• I am reflecting about how much I like you.
• Sweet unicorn dreams.
No nightMARES!

Here is another unicorn card to take. She looks cold but happy. I think it would be good for a winter birthday. It could say:
• Brrr neigh! This unicorn wishes you happy birthday!
• Happy Brrrth Neigh.
• Brrr brrr! Neigh neigh! I heard you had a birthday today!
• Happy cold birthday from a unicorn!

(or maybe birthday for someone with A/C)

These are good moments to remember that the CEOs of all the biggest companies in America are happy to go to White House dinners and slap this guy’s back. They do not care about this. Remember this, years from now, when they want you to forget.

Tumblr user nocryptographer:
I talked with someone who works in book publishing, and they mentioned they get a lot of AI slop these days. I asked how they know what's human-written, and they said that there's one thing that will reveal AI slop without error, and that's the author not knowing their own creation.
A real author can talk about their story for hours. They love to elaborate every character, every twist, every detail. Because those existed in their head long before they ever made it to the paper. They were loved before they were written.
AI slop wasn't. It was just vomited into existence.
Someone who generates their story with AI will never bond with their story the way real writers do. That's why they may not know what to say when they're asked why did the character do this, or even remember the scene in the first place. It's something they read, not something they wrote. And to a writer, those are not the same.
There's a unique bond between the creator and the creation. If your writing doesn't come of you, you'll always lack that.
I keep hearing soon we won't be able to tell. And perhaps, in a superficial sense, that's true. But there is a difference. It's not em dashes or repeated words. It's whether the story was made by someone who loves it and cares about it.
If the writer's eyes light up when asked why did the character do that? and they start their very own Ted Talk about that specific scene...
then it's real.

Remember—Billionaire philanthropy is PR

$6.25B is a lot of money. It’s also only 4.1% of the $152B Michael Dell has hoarded. If Dell paid the 37% tax rate on the wealthy he'd pay $56.25B—and still have nearly $100B, more than he'd ever need

Taxation of billionaires > philanthropy from billionaires
