The justices are definitely political actors, but I have a hard time believing the timing was determinative. The Republican return to Trump happened quite quickly. Kevin McCarthy made his new culpa trip to Mar a Lago a few weeks later. The Republicans censured Cheney and Kinzinger in February 2022!
