30.12.2025 09:01 β π 84 π 10 π¬ 5 π 0new CENP-A domains are seeded in heterochromatin mutants
SETDB1, previously implicated in transposon silencing, is a novel player in maintaining heterochromatin boundaries within core alpha satellites. This regulation is critical, as loss of heterochromatin integrity results in ectopic CENP-A domains and distal centromere nucleation!
25.11.2025 12:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We found that heterochromatin plays a key role in restricting the position of the CENP-A domain, ensuring only one CENP-A domain is nucleated per centromere. SUV39H1/2 and SETDB1 H3K9me3 methyltransferases differentially control neocentromeres, pericentromeric, and core alpha satellites.
25.11.2025 12:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We discovered that centromeric chromatin domains, composed of CENP-A variant nucleosomes, are highly plastic in their positioning at both neocentromeres and canonical alpha satellites.

A new and fascinating story from @bencarty.bsky.social and the group, with crucial help from the teams of @naltemose.bsky.social, Simona Giunta, and @dfachinetti.bsky.social. Many thanks to all for a fantastic collaboration.

The discovery of CENP-A, the centromere-specific histone H3 variant turns 40 years!
Grant Rowley wrote a wonderful historical piece on the cell cycle control of this fascinating piece of chromatin! Check it out.

04.04.2025 10:22 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fresh of the press! rdcu.be/egmY0 We discovered key chromatin modifications that are heritably maintained through mitotic cell divisions in the absence of continued transcription. These hold a memory of past exposure to interferon-gamma, priming cells for future activation of gene expression.
