One year my family grew a bunch of pale vegetables, and I stabbed toothpicks into them because of bunnicula. Turns out it wasn't as endearing as I had hoped

Black Resistance to Quaker Enslavement A moral reckoning.

For too long, the story of Quaker abolition has been told as one of conscience, but it was Black resistance that forced the Religious Society of Friends to confront its deepest contradictions.

Penstemon palmeri in ultraviolet; most of the photo is black and white except for the flowers which are purple for some reason I don't fully understand. The waxy leaves of the penstemon are glowing white compared to the leaves of other plants

Palmer's penstemon in visible light and ultraviolet, notice how the waxy coating reflects the uv so well. No clue what's going on with the colors in the uv photo, in theory it should all be greyscale

Dandelion in uv, the dark center is presumably to attract bees. No clue what wavelength is getting interpreted as yellow by the camera, the center shows it's not visible light leaking in

You actually miss 0% of the shots you don't take. If you're counting 'shots not taken' as 'missed,' then missed shots immediately become a singularity. We are all constantly in a state not taking shots. No one likes a tryhard, Steve.

The funniest folk etymology is for Macau, said to be "what the f*" (mat1 gau1 ไนœๅฐป) in Cantonese.
The Portuguese asked a local "what place is this?"
The local went: "Nei 5 ngap1 mat1 gau1" ไฝ ๅ™ไนœๅฐป๏ผŸ ("wtf are you saying?"),
so the Portuguese thought Mat1 gau1 was the name ๐Ÿคฃ 1/2

Wiki entry:

The match had many bizarre incidents
Karpov's team included noted Soviet
psychologist and hypnotherapist Vladimir
Petrovich Zukhar [rul, while Korchnoi enlisted
the help of two American Ananda Marga yoga
specialists who had recently been convicted
of attempted murder and released on bail.(1]/2]
There was more controversy off the board,
with histrionics ranging from X-raying of
chairs, protests about the flags used on the
board and Korchnoi's complaints that Zukhar,
sitting in the front row, attempted to hypnotise
him.[3l When Karpov's team sent him a
blueberry yogurt during a game without any
request for one by Karpov, the Korchnoi team
protested, claiming it could be some kind of
code. They later said this was intended as a
parody of earlier protests, but it was taken
seriously at the time.!4]

This firefly petunia looks solid white to you and me, but a bee sees bright UV lines point to the pollen and nectar. This took some effort to take, most lenses are abysmal at UV
