I don’t think it takes an Evel Kneivel like leap to think conspiracy talk that motivates someone to attack the CDC, that other conspiracy talk (chemtrails, weather modification, etc.) will inspire someone from just attacking radars to attacking meteorologists.

With emotions still high, seeing a lot of suggestions on how to improve flood warnings/predictions in the wake of the July 4th event.

I just feel the suggestions have room for improvement if they fail to take into account the experiences and judgement of the hydrologists that worked the event.

Bumping this up. AL West, I would but $$ in Vegas it is Seattle’s to lose at this point. They went big and it looks like a good call…

If we are going to send 4 run Framber our every 5 days, we need to get France, Javier, and Garcia back pretty dang quick.

Looking at the longer range models and the tropics. I will either have business as usual, ramp up coordination assistance for my coworkers at the RFC in Atlanta, or very small chance of ramping up coordination for interests closer to home.

This is the time of year, be prepared and be ready.

A almost full slate of college football in two weeks…not that I am anxiously awaiting and counting…

If anyone cares on the status of my #BAS, it is still thriving. A preseason ranking in the low 20s in most polls is probably still too high.

Damn! A lot of people bitching about the weather models genning up something mean looking…

It is freakin’ August, water is bath temperature level, and we are at the time of year when these things blow up.

What is wrong with once a day, taking a look, then checking to see if your plans are solid?

Excellent to spread the news. My second column on here is MLB…

And if we ever cross paths I will buy you a cold drink!

My only gripe is not enough sports content. The sports people I followed on the other platform, and the official team accounts, really didn’t migrate over.

Well, as feared. Just wrapped up a climate/water supply conference call, and the news is…hot and dry.

Why is that an issue? All of that lush and green vegetation from May and June, will be drying out. Expect the fire weather threat to ramp up, big time.

And still watching the tropics…

Well, it is that time of year. If you don’t have a plan, now is a good time to make one and get prepared. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

I am having mixed feelings…yeah the global models are spinning up something big and tropical in the long range, and yes the GFS is known for its over forecasting of GFSicanes, but the Euro is showings hints too. And it IS that time of year. Have flexible plans, but have a plan.

Looked at the climate data for July 2025 for DFW. Interesting, if you tally up each day’s departure from normal temperature, you get a net positive (+4F which divided by 31 days should be +0.13F). But the average monthly temperature of 85.5F is 0.2F below normal.

Told the kid in theory gas prices should indicate trends on the cost of goods. Gas today is +10% more than at Christmas. Fuel should influence cost: raw product to the manufacturer, then to distributor, then to the store, 3X. Fuel prices should have a correlation…should. Yeah I am weird.

I will be honest with you, I put a deep thought effort in what it would take to be the Pirates GM. Knowing the lack of support from owners, could you pull a Royals or As pattern of timing prospects to maybe get 1 or 2 competitive years? Because it ain’t happening otherwise…

Trying to distract from (waves hands at everything), have had time to digest some of the MLB Trade deals.

Yes happy for the Astros. Maybe we won’t have to trot out a AAA or AAAA filled roster for another month.

But sheesh, the Mariners. Legit concerned at their upgrades. The AL West went big…

Needed a disconnect so the kid and I went and watched Superman last night. So worth it. So awesome.

Just little escapes right now…

I have needed a disconnect from the hydro world, and right in time the mighty Astros went and stepped in a rake.

I see Melton is back tonight (love Singleton as a dude and competitor and wish him luck).

Now if we can only pull off a Bagwell for Anderson trade.

On average, 86% of all named tropical systems in the Atlantic occur after August 2, and the first hurricane doesn't form until August 11.

In the last 2 months I have gone from briefing on water supply and conservation with record low lake levels, to catastrophic flooding, to now focusing on PET values for evapotranspiration…the pendulum has a very large arc…

As an “old timer” in a federal agency, the immediate loss is the lack of opportunities for these VERA/VSIP employees to share their institutional knowledge with forecasters to help in the near term. Some of that knowledge is lost forever…

I evaluated all of the data available, combined with my experiences, to evaluate existing models and help another hydrologist with model results to try and target areas for the search and rescue crews. Working the event, and now this…there are no words right now.

When water hits like a tornado: The violent force of flash flooding Flash floods don’t just rise — they move with crushing weight, carrying debris and building pressure over hours. Hydrologist Gregory Waller explains why the damage looks like the aftermath of a tornad...

Was asked to try and put into words the force of moving water and how the damage can look like tornado damage.

I need to dive in and get more visuals that can connect…
