tbh, as soon as I typed this Thomas Friedman's name popped into my head, but we're definitely in the stratosphere of upward failure

I went to get bagels Saturday evening for a breakfast I was hosting yesterday morning and when I ordered one dozen bagels, the guy behind the counter (who was clearly staring down the store having too many bagels) said "how about TWO dozen bagels for the same price?" so now *I* have too many bagels.

I am sure there have been more unearned careers and influence in history, but it's really hard to think of one at the moment
