(Wondering if I can save this gif with my Alt text "A man wobbling about on a tightrope high above water thinking 'at least I'm not doing something as dangerous as making a deadpan supposed joke on Bluesky'.", because I feel like I might have need of it again sometime.)

Fond memories of working at NTL, woman rang up screaming at me. Her husband in background shouts at her, โdonโt talk to them like that. Theyโre on fuck allโ
Then he takes phone off her, and gives me a line which I have used myself since
โDo you have a manager you dislike intensely I can speak to?โ

I have accidentally discovered that if I touch and hold a Bluesky hashtag on my phone it gives me options, including the option of muting that hashtag. This is something excellent which I expect to make prodigious use of in the future.

(I am also reminded of our school production of Iolanthe, and my schoolmates in it, among them some lovely people with lovely voices who have gone. Good memories, though.)

I saw the ever-reliable Charles Court Opera doing Iolanthe justice this evening. The fairies summoning Iolanthe from her exile remains the only piece of music virtually guaranteed to send a shiver up my spine whenever I hear it. Even in Legolanthe form: www.youtube.com/shorts/8Mbbg...

She was gorgeous, she was charming, she was perfect in every way. Except she was always using the word 'infer' when she obviously meant 'imply' - and I know some guys will put up with that kind of thing, but frankly I can't imagine why.

Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) by Eurythmics is a perfect song, except for the grating fact that in order to make that first title line approximately rhyme with 'Who am I to disagree' Annie Lennox has to pronounce 'this' in the style of a comedy Mexican. #sweetdreamsaremadeofthees

There's nothing weirder than encountering one of your former ancient school-teachers in your 20s and discovering that not only are they not dead but they look a lot younger than they did when they taught you. Possibly because they're no longer teaching children like you.

That's the song that came unbidden to me this morning, I'm afraid; sorry, I don't make the rules.
I mean, I do literally make the rules, but if I don't stick to them it's almost as if the whole thing is meaningless and pointless, isn't it?

I think it more likely maps on to when we accepted we weren't going to be very successful in international tournaments, and took the attitude of "We're here for a good time, not a long time."
