Cheers! I think the 16-24 h number came from mouse work. I, like you, suspect that this won't cut it in humans. We're trying to resolve the caveats at the moment, but we're also working on a protein that is behaving like an autophagy biomarker. That's where I see the future - autophagy biomarkers.
