Making it illegal to build new homes for yuppies does not keep older homes affordable. Rich people just buy the old homes and build luxurious new homes inside their walls, which drives up the price of housing.

I understand that this is unsatisfying to people who want housing for the neediest first.

(NBC News) - President Donald Trump's pick to run the Bureau of Labor Statistics was among the crowd outside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, with the White House saying he was a "bystander" who wandered over after seeing coverage on the news.

Between the spring of 2006 and the end of 2007, there was a substantial increase in the unemployment rate for young college graduates.

The cause, of course, was a big advance in artificial intelligence technology.

We should defund private equity and REITs by building so much housing that their portfolios stop appreciating.

[VICTORY ALERT] AB 130, which creates a broad CEQA exemption for infill housing projects, has been signed by Governor Newsom. Because it is part of the budget, it is effective immediately.

I understand the gerontocracy has a stranglehold on American politics, but it's wild that we're cutting Medicaid in part so we can give seniors a $6000 tax deduction just for being seniors and there's ~zero negative coverage of the issue

High Frequency Labor Market Indicators (6/12) Crunch! Labor Market Cracks Get Wider

The acceleration in jobless claims is small potatoes so far, but I'm nervous that this is just the 1st inning of a more substantial and possibly disorderly cooling in labor markets.

I kinda feel like we need to retire the concept of "gentrification" because it's become absolutely meaningless. We should focus on measurable concepts like price increases and displacement. What is gained by arguing about the authenticity of some coffee shop?

Just finished "Abundance" and that fact that any of it is controversial just illustrates how hosed the Democratic Party is. Building more homes, generating more clean energy and developing a mass transit network is the easiest and most obvious thing that blue states ought to be doing right now.

A city council member in the wealthy City of Encinitas is calling for armed insurrection against democracy because the state is making it harder for local governments to maintain segregation and an immense housing crisis. Treasonous, murderous, and the shadow of the slavers of the Confederacy.

The Sam Seder vs Ezra Klein debate is fascinating to me, more than most of the appearances in his book tour, because it demonstrates how American progressives claim to have ideas about β€œClass Politics” but when you press them on it it’s no more sophisticated than β€œCorporations vs The People”

It's really really really hard to explain to people it's people who look like this that are actual villains in the California housing shortage crisis... and not men in top hats, with monocles, twirling their mustaches.

Gavin Newsom lays down the law on housing construction The governor is wielding his power on an issue at the heart of California's struggle to address soaring costs.

Gavin Newsom finally comes through on housing: β€œBy moving to enact changes through the budget, he could circumvent legislative obstacles like hostile committee chairs, and he will hold considerable leverage over lawmakers intent on securing their spending priorities.”
