If you're in Arkansas, it's the AR'-kin-saw River. I understand that the heathens in Kansas call it something different.

Cross the border over to Arkansas & you'll find the city of "BLAI'-vull" (the vowel is part "ah" & part "eye", & the 2nd syllable is almost swallowed), spelled "Blytheville."

Now I'm in central Illinois, & the town is "new BER'-lin" instead of NEW ber-LIN'.

It's not the foods, it's that I put ketchup on them: hot dogs (a mortal sin in Illinois), scrambled eggs, fried okra, chicken fried steak with gravy, liver & onions (although some will side-eye me for that alone). I love ketchup, & consider Heinz the Platonic ideal.

I adore liver & onions, & I'm very sad that it's getting harder to find restaurants that have it, because I don't want to make it myself.

My mom used to make a dessert that was canned fruit mixed with sour cream, frozen & cut into bars. Can't remember if she added sugar or not. It was delicious!

Hey, ketchup on hot dogs is a mortal sin if you live within the Chicago culinary sphere of influence. I try to avoid eating hot dogs in public so that I can use my ketchup in peace. (I'm a big fan of ketchup: after all, the Reagan administration did classify it as a vegetable. 😏)
