I still think this is the most atrocious headline ever. The Royal Navy had just sunk the Argentine ship 'Belgrano' with the loss of 328 lives. The Belgrano was in the exclusion zone and retreating when it happened. Everyone at that paper is a callous cunt.

The RM ranks are almost identical to the army except for;

Private = Marine
Staff Sergeant* = Colour Sergeant

*Not every regiment in the Army has Staff Sergeants. Some have weird and wonderful names. I once met a Corporal who wore Staff Sergeants rank slides but was called a Corporal of the Horse

When I joined the RN in 2001 I swore my allegiance to parliament. A friend in the Army told me he swore his to the Queen. The Royal Marine ID cards used to say Royal Navy on them and they are still very much an arm of the naval service. RM don't get called ratings as far as I know. Another quirk

In the Royal Navy commissioned officers hold rank and get saluted whilst non-commisioned folk have a rate and don't get saluted. In the Army and Air force everyone has a rank and only some get saluted. Weird quirk of the Royal Navy. One of many.

It's possible but my understanding is the teams can nominate 3 peoples salary to be outside the cap. Most teams exclude the Team Principal because their salary is so high. So I'd expect Horners salary (and any exit payments) would fall outside the cap. Although that's just pure assumption on my part
